The last couple of Sundays after service felt a little different.

Serve Expo gave everyone a chance to walk around, meet our serve teams, ask questions, and find out where they fit. People browsed tables, met the people already leading those teams, and in a lot of cases signed up on the spot. From hospitality to gsKids to production and behind the scenes, every table represented a real need and a real team ready to show up for someone else.

And then this past Sunday we said thank you to everyone who already shows up with a Serve Celebration and a dirty soda bar that may have stolen the show.

Serve Expo landed the same weekend we wrapped up Living the Dream, our series on Joseph. Joseph waited years for his life to change. When the opportunity finally came it looked nothing like he expected. What he learned is still relevant: what is placed in our hands is rarely meant to stop with us. What we have been given can make the dream possible for someone else.

That is the whole idea behind Igniting Hope. Hope does not stay with just one person.

For Christie Ross it started with a single invitation to try ushering. As an introvert she was not sure it would be a fit.

“Start small,” she says. “Be open to opportunities when they arise, even if you are not entirely sure they are for you. Sometimes the things we hesitate to say yes to become the very places where we find connection and purpose.”

Shanice Gipson found her place on the Building and Media team. “I ignite hope by getting involved and serving others,” she says.

And Gerry Pickett, who has spent years pouring into students through youth ministry, put it simply: “If you want to see change, you have to be involved in it.”
