There’s something happening in gsKids right now that I want you to know about. More kids are coming.

In August, we averaged 81 kids each Sunday between our two campuses—almost 20% more than August of last year.

That’s really exciting. It also means we need more adults willing to step in and help us care for them well.

Our kids ministry team is working hard to create an experience that is relational, safe, and engaging. We’re moving toward more small-group experiences where kids can actually know their leaders and be known by them. We’re rethinking check-in and how families move through our spaces. We want Sunday mornings to be a place kids are genuinely excited to come back to.

But there’s one thing we can’t build without people: Relationships.

Right now, our growth in kids is beginning to outpace the number of adults serving with them.

So I want to make a pretty direct ask. Would you consider trying gsKids?

You don’t have to be a teacher. You don’t have to know every (or any) Bible story. And you definitely don’t have to walk in already knowing exactly what you’re doing.

We’ll train you.

There are roles where you can spend time directly with kids, but there are also plenty of ways to help behind the scenes—check-in, preparing rooms and supplies, safety, setup, and other things that make the whole experience possible. You can even try it before deciding whether it’s a fit.

If you’re willing to learn more or give it a try, let us know by choosing your campus below:

No pressure. No lifetime commitment. Just take a first step, and we’ll help you figure out where you might fit.

And kids ministry is only one part of a much bigger story. On an average Sunday, about 140 people serve to make worship happen across Good Shepherd. Last week, 17 new people signed up to explore a serving role.

That is worth celebrating. So this coming Sunday, we’re going to do exactly that. We want to celebrate all of you who serve—and invite more of you to find your place.

If you’ve been attending Good Shepherd for a while but haven’t found a place to serve yet, maybe this is your nudge. There are kids showing up every Sunday who need adults who will learn their names, encourage them, laugh with them, and help them discover that they belong here.

Maybe one of those adults is you.

I’ll see you Sunday as we celebrate everyone who serves and wrap up our series Living the Dream together. It’s going to be a great Sunday. One that you won’t want to miss.

Peace,
Matt

And one more thing: next weekend, October 11, is a special one at Good Shepherd. If you’re newer around here, you may not know that Good Shepherd is part of the United Methodist Church. Our churches are connected with one another, and bishops help provide leadership and oversight for the churches in a region.

Our bishop, Bob Farr, will be with us next Sunday and will be preaching at both campuses. It’s not every day we get to welcome our bishop to Good Shepherd, and I’m excited for you to hear from him and for us to have him with us.
